Dmitry Salita: "Scary Tyson Fury can still improve under SugarHill Steward"
Vegas Insider caught up with Ukrainian boxing legend Dmitry Salita, who spoke about the Gypsy King, Deontay Wilder's potential next opponent and the fight between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall.
Promoter Salita gave his thoughts on a potential fight between Wilder and Wallin, on WBC heavyweight champion improving even further under SugarHill Steward, and an update on Claressa Shields' next fight:
Scary Tyson Fury can still improve under SugarHill Steward… Joshua and Usyk cannot beat Fury
"Anthony Joshua and Usyk cannot beat Tyson Fury. You never know what's going to happen in the ring… but based on what I have seen, I don't think there's a man alive that can beat Tyson Fury at this point. SugarHill and Tyson Fury are like Yin and Yang. Their personalities outside the ring are also similar. Sugar Hill is a wealth of knowledge being around his uncle the great Emanuel Steward.
"As good as Tyson is, with SugarHill in his corner, there's still room for improvement and his boxing IQ can get even better, which makes him really scary. With all due respect to Usyk and Joshua, very good fighters, maybe even great fighters – they are not as great as Tyson Fury."
Deontay Wilder is the perfect opponent for Otto Wallin as he gave Tyson Fury the fight of his career
"Deontay Wilder is the perfect opponent for Otto Wallin because Otto gave Tyson Fury the toughest fight of his career. That is the fact. Deontay Wilder had a memorable trilogy with Tyson Fury. He lost twice and drew. And if Wilder wants to prove that he is truly on his way back to stardom there's no better person for him to fight with to prove he's serious about being back on top then Otto.
"Otto is moving up in the ratings as a result of his wins. He's fought twice this year which for a heavyweight of his stature is remarkable. And that shows that he's serious about his career. The perfect situation would be Deontay Wilder fighting Otto Wallin for the WBC interim world title as Tyson Fury announced his retirement and is really unsure from what I understand what his boxing plans may or may not be. The reason why I say interim is because Tyson Fury is the world champion – the best in the world. But until he makes a decision, that's the reason why I say interim title because Otto and Wilder would need to be for something significant. I've reached out [to Wilder's team] and made it known that we're available and interested in pursuing a fight with Deontay Wilder."
Claressa Shields is desperate to avenge amateur defeat to Savannah Marshall and July date for fight is being targeted
"Taylor versus Serrano was a tremendous fight, a tremendous event that outlived the hype. And there's no-one better to keep raising the bar for women's boxing than Claressa Shields who's desperate to avenge her only loss in the amateurs to Marshall. It's a bit of a different fight to Taylor and Serrano – Savannah and Claressa genuinely dislike each other. This is a true rivalry."
