Dennis Hobson welcomes Josh Holmes to the team
Josh Holmes (5-0) wants to be Central Area champion by the end of the year, after signing a promotional deal with Dennis Hobson.
Already, the unbeaten featherweight from Earby, Lancashire, impressed promoter Hobson after his winning performance on December’s Sheffield drive-in show, and is now looking forward to progressing under the Fight Academy banner.
A successful amateur, winning 24 of 29 fights, Josh is now a full-time pro, trained by Robert Rimmer. The 25-year-old, known for his silky boxing skills, is also being guided by experienced manager, Kevin Maree, who is confident he has a future star on his hands.
“It was totally different to what I’m used to, with all the cars beeping and the atmosphere, but it was probably one of the best shows I’ve boxed on,” said Josh about his appearance on the UK’s first ever drive-in boxing show.
“And I’m so pleased to be teaming up with Dennis. He has so much experience and I’m so excited to get onboard to see how far I can get. When he gives me opportunities I’ll take them with both hands, and show what I can do. I’m an elusive fighter, can switch between stances, and I don’t get hit much – I make my opponents miss and then make them pay!
“I’m ready to move on. I’m 5-0 now and would love to end 2021 at 10-0, and with a Central Area Title around my waist.”
Kevin Maree, said: “I’ve known Josh since he was a really young boy, he came down to the gym and I was just ‘wow’! I knew how good he would be, and since he’s turned pro, he’s not lost a round of boxing. He’s incredible, and everyone who sees him says ‘he’s a world champion in the making’. He’s very special.”
