Quality defined as Persoon shines to win WBC Silver title
Former WBC lightweight champion Delfine Persoon (48-3, 19KO) scored a major decision win over South Korea’s Bo Mi Re Shin (15-2-3, 8KO) at Sportcentrum Van Steenland in Torhout, Belgium.
In this bout on Sunday, May 28, the WBC Silver super-featherweight title was at stake.
The match started very even, with Belgian boxer Persoon utilising her strong jab that has brought constant success throughout her successful career. Delfine, 38, knew how to take full advantage of her height and reach, keeping Shin away for much of the fight.
However, the 29-year-old Korean fighter showed a great heart and will to be the aggressor, constantly seeking to connect.
The Judges’ scorecards were: 96-94 for Shin, 97-93 and 98-92 for Persoon, in a fight that was very entertaining and competitive, showing that women’s boxing is thriving worldwide.
Persoon improves her record to 48 wins with 19 knockouts and 3 losses. The win extended Persoon’s current five-fight unbeaten streak from a pair of losses to undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor.
Shin is now 15-2-3 (8KOs), both of her career losses coming on the road; she lost a six round decision to Thi Linh Tran in February 2020 in Bavet, Cambodia. This defeat ended a six-fight win streak.
