Delfine Persoon wins the WBC Silver title
Delfine Persoon (47-3, 19KO) of Belgium won the vacant World Boxing Council super-featherweight silver title by defeating previously undefeated Elhem Mekhaled (15-1, 3KO) of France on points on a card in Dubai.
The fight was initially scheduled for last weekend but was postponed, in respect, following the death of United Arab Emirates President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The government declared “official mourning” for a period of 40 days and three days of suspension of work activities.
Delfine defined herself, showing her greatest experience, dominating on the Judges’ scorecards, which read as 97-93, 96-94 and 97-94.
This victory of the Belgian champion, who also works as a police officer in her country, put her in a great position to fight soon for the WBC world title, against the current champion Alycia Baumgardner. It's her third win in a row since her last career defeat to Katie Taylor in 2020.
