Debut Corner with Josh Miller

Dudley flyweight debutant Josh Miller makes his pro bow on the undercard of middleweight prospect Tommy Langford's first title defence of his newly-attained WBO Inter-Continental strap on October 3rd at the Wolves Civic. A product of the talent-packed Priory Park Boxing Club in the West Midlands, the 22-year-old took time out of his busy training schedule to talk to BBN. Here's what he had to say...   What made you want to start boxing? Always loved the sport and always loved a fight.”   Who was your boxing hero growing up and why? “My hero growing up was Juan Manuel Marquez, one of the best combination punchers in the business.”   How old were you when you had your first fight and how did you do? “I was 18 when I had my first amateur boxing fight which I won on unanimous decision but I came from an MMA background and had previous fights.”   How well did you do in the amateurs? I did quite well in the amateurs being a West Midlands champion and also a Central England titleholder.   What made you decide to turn pro? “My coach and I always felt the pro game would suit me better and the timing was right.”   What team do you have around you? “I have my coach and manager Paul Gough, a winner of amateur coach of the year and top pro coach, I have Robert Wright, a former pro fighter and Steven Hawthorn, an ex-fighter himself.” Josh Miller corner What sort of fighting style do you have? “I mirrored my style on my idol, Marquez. I throw lots of combinations, I can be a pressure fighter but can also box on the back foot.”   What ambitions do you have for your pro career? “Hopefully, I can go right to the top but for now I’m setting my goals in stages. Hopefully, I can win a Midlands title towards end of next year.”   When is your first fight and who will be there in support? “My first fight is October 3rd at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. It will be on the undercard of Tommy Langford’s WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title defence live on Box Nation as it is a Frank Warren co-promoted show. I will have all my friends and family there.”   Tell us something that many people know about you?
