BBN visit Joe Jackson, another product of the exciting Queensbury Boxing League run by Alan Foley and former English champion, Ross Minter. The 22-year-old light-heavyweight from Banbury is embarking upon his professional debut at the Civic Hall, Grays, Essex on March 14th on a Carl Greaves Promotion show.
Joe talks to us about his unbeaten streak in the QBL, his hard-working gym, and ambitions to be the British champion one day.
What made you want to start boxing?
“I have always loved boxing and I did a bit as a kid but then had a break for a few years then came back to it when I was 18 just to get fit but I ended up competing and doing well.”
Who was your boxing hero growing up and why?
“I never really had a boxing hero growing up but I have always loved watching boxing whoever is fighting.”
How old were you when you had your first fight and how did you do?
“I was 18 and I won.”
How well did you do in the amateurs?
“I didn't fight in the amateurs, I fought in the Queensbury Boxing League and I haven't lost a fight.”
What made you decide to turn pro?
“It was always the goal to turn pro and now I just think it's the right time. I'm really looking forward to getting in the ring.”
