‘Dazzling’ Darrel Church’s (2-1-1) next opponent has been announced as light-heavyweight debutant Ricky Alan.
The pair will lock horns on December 3rd
at London’s York Hall on a Kevin Campion promoted show titled ‘Christmas Cracker’, featuring the headlining fight between Ben ‘The Entertainer’ Day (8-1-1) and Michael ‘Chunky’ Devine (14-5-1) for the vacant Southern Area lightweight title.
Farnham’s Ricky Alan has 68 amateur bouts under his belt and will provide Church with a stern test as his fifth opponent in the paid ranks.
The Surrey away fighter is returning to the ring following a five-year absence and will be hoping to make it a double celebration as he turns 33-years-old just days after his fight with Church.
The debutant will first tackle unbeaten light-heavyweight Adi Burden on November 12th
at the York Hall, just three weeks ahead of their bout at the same setting.
The festive event will deliver Church, 27-years-old from Witham, with just his second fight this year.
He said, “I’ve got a debutant so don’t know what to expect really, I just concentrate on my strengths.
“I prefer an opponent who’s there for a fight and comes to win. He’s a debutant now but he fights a few weeks before and he’ll be up for this one against me.
“I’m going to be in the best shape I’ve ever been so I don’t really care who’s put in front of me on the night.”
The 175-pounder has had a stuttering start to his professional career plagued with injuries, illnesses and cancellations since debuting back in July 2014 at the Grays Civic Hall in Essex.
Church was unbeaten in 11 fights in the thriving unlicensed scene in Essex before turning pro under Carl Greaves Promotions.
Just four fights in over two years has been discouraging for Church but things are looking up now he has signed contracts with promoter Steve Goodwin and received a boost from sponsors MB Surfacing that will now allow him to train fulltime.
“I’m in training camp already, I started last week,” the father of one said. “It feels a bit weird to be fulltime as a pro and have the whole day available.
“I’m training three times a day now and I’m able to get that rest in between sessions that I couldn’t get before when I was working.”
The light-heavyweight now plans to keep active and start to increase the rounds before challenging for titles.
“I want to fight four or five times this year,” he declared. “I’d fight every week if it wasn’t for ticket sales!
“I’ll have this four-rounder next then move up to six-rounds next year.”
The festive show titled ‘Christmas Cracker’ features a Southern Area Championship fight, 11 unbeaten prospects and four debutants. The card boasts 25 scheduled fights including former commonwealth champion John O’Donnell back in action again fresh from his Southern Area welterweight title win on October 1st
