David Haye fully behind Derek Chisora for Tyson Fury fight
Betfred’s Lightweight Boxing Show spoke to former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye regarding the Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora trilogy fight next month in London. The two-weight world titlist from Bermondsey also added his view on the ongoing Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua debacle and whether he believes they will ever fight each other in the future, “If a fighter doesn’t want to do it, then it’s not going to happen. They’ll always hide behind their team.”
Hear what 'The Hayemaker' had to say below:
David Haye on Tyson Fury versus Derek Chisora III:
“I’m personally excited about it because I’ve seen Derek Chisora’s trajectory. People a few years ago would have thought that him receiving a world title shot was ludicrous because he’s lost 12 fights. Who fights for a world title after losing three of his last five fights? Very few, but in boxing, if you stick with it, you’re dedicated and you’re willing to take fights on short notice from time to time and put yourself in the ring with very dangerous opponents, then what goes around comes around.
“When he fought Vitali Klitschko, he got peanuts but still put in a really good performance. This time, he will be on ten times as much as he received from the Klitschko fight. Financially, as a fighter in the twilight of his career, he deserves the platform with such a high rank opponent.”
David Haye on whether Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will ever fight:
“I don’t pay much attention to it because it doesn’t really matter. Whether the fans are on your side or not, it doesn’t stop the fights happening. Fighters have had momentum behind them and others have had it the other way round. The fighters will fight when it’s financially beneficial for everyone. I don’t know the ins and outs for why the fight with AJ didn’t happen. I don’t want to know as I don’t really care.
“The best always fight the best. The only time it hasn’t happened was when Riddick Bowe threw his belt in the bin instead of fighting Lennox Lewis. We all know why that fight didn’t happen, it couldn’t have been clearer, it was “I would rather put the title in the bin than fight you”.
“What’s happening between Fury and AJ at the moment, I have no idea who’s right and who’s wrong. A lot of the time, I believe the information we get isn’t 100% accurate.
“In all the fights I’ve made, it’s never had to go social. If a fighter doesn’t want to do it, then it’s not going to happen. They’ll always hide behind their team. Any fighter can fight in any fight if they want to if their team is working for them.”
