Dave Allen vs Christian Hammer is off
British heavyweight Dave Allen (18-5-2, 15KOs) is looking for a new opponent ahead of a return to action following a positive Covid-19 result for Christian Hammer (25-6, 15KOs).
‘The White Rhino’ is set to appear on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Derek Chisora Sky Sports Box Office show on October 31, but after the Romainan-born German opponent returned a positive test, the fight has since been scrapped.
28-year-old Allen is now running out of time to find another opponent for what was expected to be a step up in levels against the former WBO European heavyweight champion.
“Christian Hammer has tested positive for COVID-19 and is out the fight vs. Dave Allen on the Usyk vs. Chisora undercard,” said a Matchroom statement on the matter. “A new opponent for 'The White Rhino' will be confirmed shortly.”
Last time out, Allen took apart brave journeyman Dorian Darch in three easy rounds. The victory came following a damaging beatdown at the hands of Liverpool heavyweight hero David Price, where the Conisbrough fighter was forced to retire in round 10.
Ranked in the top 10 in the UK, Allen is gunning for the British title, which is currently in the hands of Daniel Dubois who will defend it to Joe Joyce in November. The Lonsdale belt is expected to become vacant after the clash with the winner set to proceed to world title level. Nathan Gorman is one other fighter that aims to challenge for the title should it become available.
News of Allen's next opponent will be announced shortly.
