Cuban Hairon Socarras confident ahead of Golden Contract featherweight tournament
Classy undefeated Cuban Hairon Socarras will arrive for next week’s #GoldenContract featherweight quarter-finals at York Hall full of belief.
The 26-year-old ‘El Maja’ (22-0-3, 14 KOs) enters Tuesday’s draw alongside Ryan Walsh, Jazza Dickens, Davey Oliver Joyce, Leigh Wood, Tyrone McCullagh, Carlos Ramos and Carlos Araujo targeting the coveted five-fight promotional deal.
As he prepares to announce himself on Sky Sports in the UK in association with Matchroom and on ESPN+ in the US in association with Top Rank on October 4, Socarras is already bristling with intent.
Socarras said: “Winning this Golden Contract tournament would take my career to the next level. There are many good fighters in it but I plan to beat whoever I face.
“Being the last man standing will bring me closer to my goal, which is to become champion of the world. I believe that will happen after this tournament.
“I have watched a few of the other fighters in this tournament so I know they’re going to be ready for this competition, as I am.
“I think it’s going to be a great show for the fans. The British public can expect a lot from me because I bring real power. I’m small but I can really fight.
“I can box as well as fight so we’ll see what I have to do once I’m in there.”
With the all-important draw to be made on Tuesday, Wednesday’s 1pm press conference at Whitechapel’s Holiday Inn is bound to be a spicy one and fans and media alike will also flock to York Hall for a 1pm weigh-in Thursday.
