Arijan Goricki meets Suat Laze in 10-round battle
Croatian featherweight prospect Arija Goricki (11-1, 5KO) will face a tough test tonight in his home city of Zagreb against a former Italian champion Suat Laze (25-8-1, 7KO).
The pair will battle over 10-rounds at featherweight on a BK Bozic Gym event at Zagreb Fair. 24-year-old 'Archie' plans to win the fight in impressive style to claim a shot at the European featherweight title, which is now in the hands of Brit boxer Jordan Gill.
The weigh-in took place at the Admiral Casino in Zagreb on Friday, June 17
Weigh-in Results:
Arijan Goricki 56.9 kg / 125.4 lbs
Suat Laze 58.8 kg / 129.6 lbs
The event starts at 18:20 in the Pavilion 18, Zagreb, Croatia.
Albanian-born Italian fighter Laze was a seven-time Italian amateur champion and challenger for the European title. He was crowned Italian featherweight champion in December 2019. Now 42, Laze lost his last two fights but both were title bouts – the Italian featherweight title (TD7), followed by the WBO European (KO2).
Goricki was originally preparing for a different opponent, he explained, "This fight was supposed to be against Anuar Salas but they pulled out of fight 20 days ago, so were replaced by Suat Laze.
"Team Laze was saying a couple days before the fight that they will not be able to come at 126lbs limit but that they will come under 130lbs.
"I am sorry that Salas pulled out of the fight because we were preparing for him and to make a statement, but fortunately we got an even better and more experienced opponent.
"I would like to thank my team for preparing me for this fight, I am ready for everything that Laze can offer and to look impressive in the fight.
"Thanks to my sponsors and friends who are with me and who helped me raise money so I could pay such a good opponent and move up the rankings and look for my chance at the European title."
