Goricki concedes unbetaen record to Romanenia
Croatian Arijan Goricki (8-1-1, 4KOs) clashed with fellow unbeaten prospect Valerii Romanenia (3-0, 1KO) in his 10th contest in Seebuhne Elbauenpark, Magdeburg, Germany on Saturday, July 17.
The six-round featherweight fight was broadcast on Germany MDR TV.
Disappointed 23-year-old Goricki said, "I lost by referee decision after six rounds of fighting.
"From the beginning, Romanenia started waving and throwing punches. At the end of the first round our legs got tangled, he threw a punch and I touched the ring with my glove and the referee counted me. He was ready and persistent. It took me a few rounds to adjust, because he is an awkward boxer. When I finally started to dominate, it was too late. In the fifth round, Valerii touched the ring but the referee did not see the punch and unfortunately there was no counting.
"This just wasn't my night. Kudos to my opponent, he had a better day today. Even though I lost, my goal is still the same, I will come back and keep climbing rankings. As in any sport, defeat is an integral part and the most important thing is how we take that defeat, I see it as a lesson and a lesson for a further career."
Clearly deflated, he added, "Right now, I'm thinking of taking a little break to clear my head and get back in the ring soon.
"I would like to thank everyone who supports me and who is with me and who continues to support me and follow my career."
