The latest: Eubank, and the money
Hearn said Benn “has got nowhere to go” and “is probably looking at the Eubank fight and thinking, ‘that is really my only fight.’” On October 25 he repeated it to iFL TV: “The only fight for Conor Benn now is Chris Eubank. That’s it.” He added that Eubank “holds the keys to Conor Benn’s next payday.”
Hearn has reportedly met Eubank Jr, who is 37, but says no further talks are planned. His advice to Eubank: “If Conor wants to come back then you do it at your weight, with no rehydration clause and on your terms.” Their two fights were at middleweight (160lbs), and Benn’s manager Connolly has suggested 168lbs.
The alternatives
Hearn suggested Zuffa could offer Benn dangerous fights at 147lbs, such as Jaron Ennis, but said Benn wouldn’t take them for that kind of money. “He may never even fight again,” Hearn said. He has also predicted that Benn could leave Zuffa, which the company hasn’t confirmed.
What to expect
Nothing is signed. Benn, who has said before that “there is no trilogy”, has not publicly agreed to one. A comeback fight is unlikely before the new year, but an announcement could come at any time.
