Team GB star Paige Murney turns pro
Dave Coldwell has expanded his managerial roster with the signing of Team GB star, Paige Murney. The 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist leaves the amateur ranks following a highly successful spell that has saw her claim multiple honours both domestically and at international level.
Coldwell, who has a vast pedigree at navigating his fighters to the highest levels in professional boxing, is delighted with his most recent signing and is confident of delivering further success for Murney.
“I’m over the moon to have signed Paige,” beamed Coldwell “I know all about her accomplishments in the amateur game and she’s a fighter who has impressed me with her attitude. She’s highly thought of at Team GB and that’s no surprise when you look at all the titles she’s won. I'm currently managing Amy Timlin and I've got her in position for a European title and I want to deliver the same opportunities for Murney too."
Coldwell added, “The rise of women’s boxing in recent years has been brilliant for the sport and we’ve had the chance to witness some great fights in Britain featuring the likes of Katie Taylor, Terri Harper, and Natasha Jonas. I believe that Paige Murney can be a good addition to those names and I can’t wait for her pro journey to start as I know she’s going to make a big impression on the sport.”
Murney, who will be trained by Ajmal “Hudge” Butt, is relishing the opportunity to test herself in professional waters. Her amateur achievements have taken her to lofty platforms and she is adamant that she can transfer her vested experience into the paid ranks.
“It was the perfect time to turn pro,” said an excited Murney. “Women’s boxing is at an all-time high in terms of popularity and I want to be a part of it now. I’ve been with Team GB for nearly four years and even though I’ve loved my time there, it’s the right time to turn over and show everybody what I know I’m capable of.”
On joining Coldwell’s management stable, Murney added, “I look at Dave and what he has done for his fighters and I know he can do that for me. He’s hands on with all his fighters and you can see how much it means to him to direct his fighters to the top. He’s always been great with me and I’m looking forward to getting started with him as my manager.”
