Commonwealth champ Lee McGregor signs with MTK to land British title fight with Kash Farooq
MTK Global have announced the signing of reigning Commonwealth bantamweight champion Lee McGregor (5-0) on an advisory basis.
The 22-year-old Scot clinched the vacant Commonwealth title in just his fifth pro outing against Cameroon-born Thomas Essomba (8-5), 30 from Ryhope, by way of a 12th round knockout.
Now backed by MTK Global, 'Lightning' McGregor expects to move quickly through the rankings and position himself for the highest honours in boxing.
Edinburgh's McGregor said:“This is a dream come true to have a team like MTK Global advising me. I’ve been watching what they’ve been doing for their fighters and I’m so happy they’ll now be helping to push me on.
“Everyone knows I’ll fight anyone. I’m Commonwealth champion but that’s just the start. Another Scot, Kash Farooq, is the current British champ and that’s certainly a belt I’d love to hold.
“MTK Global has revitalised Scottish boxing in the last year or so and that could be another massive night for the sport in my country.”
MTK Global CEO Sandra Vaughan has welcomed McGregor into the MTK family.
Vaughan said: “Scotland and Scottish boxing are obviously very close to my heart and Lee is one of the hottest prospects we have.
“It was a no-brainer to get him on board and I look forward to some great nights in Glasgow and Edinburgh as he continues his journey towards being a world champion.”
In addition to blasting to the Commonwealth crown last time out, McGregor has also claimed the IBF Youth world title in his professional career.
