Chris Eubank Jr. wants world title shot at Gennadiy Golovkin
Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23KOs) is targeting a world title fight with Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36KOs) after his win over Liam Williams in Wales at the weekend.
Brighton boxer Eubank defeated Welshman Williams in Cardiff on Saturday night with a measured but dominant display over his bitter domestic rival to cement his position as the No.1 middleweight in the UK, and wants to move onto a major title fight in 2022.
Speaking of IBF champion Golovkin, Eubank told Sky Sports: "That is the No 1 target. He is up there as the fight that I want next. He is the top of the list."
The 32-year-old continued, "But that's the exciting thing about the middleweight division right now, there are so many big names and world championships to fight for.
"We're gunning for a big name and a big title in the summer."
Golovkin is still expected to face WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata before he entertains another fight.
With a 'GGG' showdown not likely in the near future, Eubank has said he would consider fighting the winner of Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook, which takes place later this month.
"If the fans want it, then absolutely," he admitted. "We'll have to see what happens in the fight with him and Amir.
"Would a fight with the winner be a possibility? Absolutely. If the fans want it, I'm down 100 per cent."
Eubank has now experienced three fights with the legendary Roy Jones Jr. as his chief trainer. The pair begun working together by accident during the pandemic and have forged a strong bond. With RJJ in his corner, the Brit has beaten Marcus Morrison, Wanik Awdijan and Liam Williams within the last 10 months.
