Braekhus returns with triumph
Boxing's First Lady is not done yet!
Former world champion Cecilia Braekhus (37-2, 9KO) returned to the ring after 21 months of inactivity to skillfully defeat Argentine Marisa Joana Portillo (19-15-3, 4KO) at the Casino Commerce in California, America on a Golden Boy Promotions show, which also included boxer-turned-promoter Oscar's cousin, Diego De La Hoya Villegas.
Now 41, Braekhus hadn’t fought since she lost for the second time to Jessica McCaskill in March 2021. This time, Cecilia fought at super welterweight, where she showed that she still retains her distinctive quality, winning by unanimous decision – 60-54 on all three scorecards.
With this victory, Braekhus improves her record to 37-2, with 9 knockouts, while Portillo dropped to 19-16-3, 4 knockouts.
Diego De La Hoya Villegas won his bout against Jose Santos Gonzalez via eighth-round technical decision. Santos Gonzalez was down in rounds three and five, but then was cut badly over his right eye from accidental headbutt in round eight of a scheduled 10.
