Arch of Triumph Colossus comeback for the Arena Coliseo
Hip hip hurrah, as Friday night marked the long awaited return of Boxing at the Arena Coliseo, Mexico City.
Topping the Bill, former world champion Carlos “Principe” Cuadras knocked out Juan Carlos Mireles in five scintillating rounds. The culmination of a sustained and thrilling onslaught.
The end came with an irresistible accumulation of punches that forced Juan Carlos’s corner to throw in the towel, with the crowd roaring on the action. One heck of an atmosphere ringing around the portals of the famous and beloved Arena, graced by legions of champions and hosts of fans.
“I promised I was going to show you and I did. Now I’m going for the championship. I won’t rest until I have another chance to be a world champion,” vowed Carlos.
With this victory, the little big man improved his record to 41-5-1, with 28 KO’s, and opened the way to face Pedro Guevara for the World Boxing Council Silver title.
In a 10-round middleweight confrontation, Nacho Beristain’s student, Brazilian Etoundi Michel, rose from the canvas to knock out Mexican Azael Villegas in two rounds. Pure drama!
Michel started the contest at a sedate pace that allowed the tricolor to unleash a bevy of jabs to the face which dispatched him to the canvas. Chastised, the South American rose, gathered his wits, mustered his strength and overpowered his opponent, obliging Referee Abigail Pérez to stop the action.
In one of the most disputed and controversial fights of the night, Adre “Chiltepin” Farca defeated via split decision (58-57, 56-56 and 57-58) the favorite Óscar Alcarado, six rounds at straw weight.
In a 4-round duel, Ángel González maintained his undbeaten by defeating Erik Márquez Gamino by unanimous decision.
What a magnificent, action packed, spectacular comeback for the Coliseo, which is here to stay!
