Carla Merino successfully retains WBC Silver belt
At the Monaco Hotel in the city of Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba, Argentina, on November 3, local fighter Carla “Muñeca” Merino (13-2, 2KO) successfully made the first defence of her WBC Super Flyweight Silver title by winning a decision over heard-hitting Venezuelan Leiryn “La China” Flores (20-4-1, 16KO).
24-year-old Argentine Merino dominated most of the 10-round championhip contest, demonstrating her quality by defeating a fighter with extensive experience, as weell as heavy hands. The 32-year-old from Caracas has stopp ed 16 from 20 fighters, totalling a fearsome 80% knockout ratio.
She slipped down to a fourth defeat, after initialy reachinf 16 bouts unbeaten until her first loss in 2019. She has since lost four of her last nine fights. Merino ended a three-fight win streak with her victory last weekend.
