Carl Greaves announces first event of the year
Promoter Carl Greaves has unveiled his first event of the year – 'Fight Club' – at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent on March 4, in association with Scott Lawton.
Fighting in the home corner for the first time in her short career is popular southpaw, Beccy Ferguson (1-3), 31 from Stoke-on-Trent. She takes part in a six-rounder at super-lightweight against an oppinent yet to be confirmed.
Ferguson spoke exclusively to BBN: "I’m really looking forward to this home show in march, it will be my first pro fight in front of my hometown and I can’t wait to show off what I can do. I learnt a lot last year from my previous fights and I'm raring to show how I have improved.
"I'm looking forward to six-rounds, as I feel I always do better in the later rounds. I'm coming for everything people say I can’t this year! So watch this space!
"I don’t know who my opponent is and to be honest I don’t care! All I know is whoever it is is standing in my way and it’s only going to end one way…. Winner winner!! Bring on March the 4th!"
The 'Firebomb' turned pro as an away fighter, debuting on October 1st, 2021, against super-lightweight Kirstie Bavington (5-2, 2KOs) in the West Midlander's back yard in Wolverhampton over six-rounds.
She then fought for a second time on an Errol Johnson event just two weeks later in Birmingham against another Midlander, Vicky Wilkinson (1-0).
Remarkably, she fought again one month on, grabbing a win on the road for the first time against unbeaten Jordan Barker (1-1), in her home town of Newcastle on an MTK Global show.
One week later, on November 20, she was back in the ring again, making it four fights in seven weeks! She lost for a third time to Amersham's Juliette Horwood at the York Hall on a Goodwin Boxing show.
In all three defeats, she has taken a round from each of her opponents.
In her first fight at home, she is planning on securing a second victory to kick off the year with. Her opponent is yet to be named, but the super-lightweight will compete for a second time over the six-round distance.
Middleweight Josh Groombridge (7-2, 4KOs) is also back in action for the first time in almost three years of inactivity. The 160-pounder was last seen in the Ultimate Boxxer 3 middleweights tournament, which Derrick Osaze won.
Also in action on the Friday fight night will be debutants Kyle Davies; Crimmy Dean and light-heavyweight Jamie Hughes; as well as welterweights Jamie Stewart (2-2-1, KOs) and Mike Jones (2-3).
It'll be a busy weekend for Carl Greaves Promotions, as the boxer-turned-promoter also has a show taking place the following night, on March 5, in his hometown of Newark, featuring Dec Spelman in his first fight up at cruiserweight.
