Carl Frampton edging at the bookies over Jamel Herring
American hero Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring’s WBO super-featherweight world title defence against Belfast’s former two-weight world champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton, on Saturday, April 3 from Caesars Bluewaters Dubai, will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+.
The Northern Ireland star is aiming to become a three-weight world champion, but has to triumph against an in-form champion at the highest weight yet.
Despite the difficulties in being able to acheive this, the challenger is leading at the bookies, with less than a month to go.
Currently, the bookies has Carl Frampton at 13/18 and Jamel Herring at 15/13.
Some betting sites have Frampton an even bigger favourite at 8/11 and Herring at 11/10. The odds for a draw are running quite low compared to normal boxing contests at 16/1, so it's clear it's a close contest to call.
Frampton's challenge was set for Saturday February 27 at the Copper Box Arena in London, but a minor hand injury forced him to withdraw. The setback and change in location still sees him leading as the favourite, however.
Practical Tips To Remember Before Betting On Boxing Matches
Many people enjoy betting on sports because it makes the games more interesting to watch. While some prefer to bet on football and soccer games, others opt to place their wagers on boxing matches. This article lists down some practical tips that you need to remember before betting on the latter.
Be Selective of the Sportsbook
One of the primary things that you need to remember before betting on boxing matches is to be selective of the sportsbook you will engage with. Apart from the proper licenses provided by recognized regulating bodies, you should also consider their offers such as special promotions and sign-up bonuses. In this case, you will most likely find a PointsBet promo code that you can use as soon as you sign up with PointsBet or a similar sign-up bonus code in case you sign up with another sportsbook. You can use this to add some more funds to your account, which you can use in placing a wager on a boxing match.
Familiarize yourself with the different types of bets
Another thing that you need to do before betting on boxing matches is to familiarize yourself with the different types of bets that you may encounter. There are generally two types of bets namely the over bets as well as the under bets. However, several factors may affect your decision to go with an over or an under bet, which you also need to take time to understand. From there, keep in mind that it is better to make a few bets rather than betting on every match of the event.
Calculate implied probabilities
Each fighter has Moneyline odds and this is the first set of numbers that bettors usually see. What you need to do is to convert these odds into probabilities using implied probability calculators that you will be able to find online. In this way, you will have a better idea of how the odds of a fighter equate to their chances of winning the match.
Understand the stats
Finally, you also need to take the time to understand some boxing stats such as the punches thrown or landed, as well as the jabs per round. You should also research what power punches per round is about. While these three major boxing stats seem to be simple, they prove to be significant in determining who will be the winner of the match. For instance, the fighter with more success with the jab is most likely to win. Aside from this though, you should also consider the record of the fighter because the one with a zero loss tends to be more marketable, drawing casual bettors to that fighter.
Before you bet on boxing matches, explore your options and be selective of the sportsbook that you engage with. Aside from this, you also need to familiarize yourself with the different types of bets and try to calculate implied probabilities. Make sure that you also understand the stats in boxing because all these are geared towards increasing your chances of winning your bets.
