Canelo defeats Rocky Fielding to become a three-weight World champ
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez knocked Rocky Fielding down four times in an emphatic third-round stoppage win in New York.
Mexican superstar Alvarez was always the heavy favourite, with some claining the fight was mis-match, despite Rocky entering as the defending WBA super-middleweight champion.
Brutal left hooks to the body dropped the Briton in the opening round and again in the following, ending all hope of an upset for the Liverpdudlian, who bravely continued.
A stinging right hand to the jaw again downed Fielding in the third segment, before another left connected with the body, prompting the referee to wave off the fight.
Canelo is now a three-weight World champion with the addition of the WBA World 'Regular' super-middleweight title. The WBA 'Super' title is currently held by WBSS winner Callum Smith, which would be a dream fight for many fight fans.
The 28-year-old Mexican still holds the WBC and WBA titles at middleweight.
