Bruno Tarimo heads down in weight, wants world title clash at 122
Highly rated Bruno Tarimo (26-3-2, 5KOs) is finally heading down to his natural weight of super bantamweight, as he sets his sights on world titles.
Tanzanian-born Tarimo has defined a road warrior in recent years, constantly upsetting the odds on away soil against the likes of Nathanial May, Kye Mackenzie, and former world champion Joel Brunker amongst others, however, these wins have all come at super featherweight.
Since a gallant effort against Zelfa Barrett in the UK in a world title eliminator, Tarimo has decided to finally make the correct move, and move down in weight to 122 pounds. The Australian-based Tanzanian weighed in on his decision to finally move down.
Tarimo said, "I've made the decision to move down in weight alongside my team headed up by Australian boxing mainstay Tony Tolj, who has got me great opportunities at super featherweight, but we have always known that is not my natural fight weight.
"So we have made a decision to move down in weight to 122 for good, and unless a massive fight comes at 126, I will be campaigning at 122 from now on, and I believe it's the right weight for me to become world champion at."
The 122 division has some of boxing's elite and possibly underappreciated names in it with Stephen Fulton and Murodjon Akhmadaliev holding two versions of the world title a-piece. With other top class names in the world ratings at super bantamweight, Tarimo has eyed a wish list of targets that would allow him to put himself in line for a world title clash.
"I work hard and train hard, and do my best to be a good person and praise Jesus every day. I hope one day that is rewarded in my boxing career with a world title opportunity.
"I look at fighters like Tomoki Kameda, Mike Plania, Angelo Leo, Thomas Patrick Ward and I know I can beat these guys, I just need the opportunity to do so. Then I want to fight one of the champions.
"I live in Australia, a place where boxing is getting bigger and we are having massive events here. I am always ready to fight, and I hope that I can get one of these big names in Australia. If not, I have shown I am happy to travel to put on an exciting fight."
