Brothers Peter and Joe McGrail both in action on Benn-Algieri card
Everton Red Triangle duo Peter and Joe McGrail will both be fighting on the Conor Benn vs Chris Algieri card on Saturday, December 11 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, live worldwide on DAZN.
The talented pair are trained by Paul Stevenson at the ERT Gym in Liverpool, alongside unbeaten pro's Nick Ball (14-0, 7KOs); Andrew Cain (8-0, 7KOs); Bradley Strand (6-0, 3KOs).
25-year-old Peter put on a punch-perfect performance on his pro bow on October 9 on the Liam Smith vs Anthony Fowler card. The southpaw turned pro after representing Great Britain in the Tokyo Olympics. His stellar amateur career saw him win Gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and he also claimed two World Championships bronze medals.
Youner sibling Joe was also a standout amateur, experiencing over 50 bouts, also trained by Paul Stevenson. In 2018, he landed a European Junior silver medal at his first major tournament, and was also a National ABA champion. He has been regularly sparring with Peter for many years already, as well all the pros in the gym too.
He faces Spaniard Francisco Rodriguez (0-3) over four-rounds at bantamweight. The 32-year-old has never won in three pro fights, but also not been stopped in over 12 rounds either.
Joe is over the moon to be sharing his big night with his big brother, “It’s a brilliant card to be making my debut on, it’s special for me to be on the card with my brother Peter – I’m happy. My older brother, he’s like my best mate but I also look up to him. He’s a role model to me.”
Pro debut done and dusted, Peter will tackle a winning fighter in just his second bout, going up against Central American Engel Gomez (8-3-1, 4KOs). The 21-year-old Nicaraguan was unbeaten in nine bouts but lost his last three in a row. He took Frank Warren signing Adan Mohamed the full four rounds just last month.
Peter said, “It’s good times, obviously fight number one was a belter, belter card in Liverpool. You’ve [Eddie] brought another belter card to Liverpool, got me and Joe on it, I’ve trained alongside French and Cordina, I know Robbie Davies, watching Benn and Taylor for years. Boxing on a card alongside these is a privilege and I’m looking forward to Saturday.
“The experience of the first fight will be with me for life, probably won’t get anything like that until I’m fighting for titles. It’s good to get that on my debut, I’ve got that under my belt, a good six rounds and the first of my professional career. I’m looking forward to performing on Saturday, keep the ball rolling and pushing on for a big 2022.”
