Inspired by Sunny Edwards, Brandon Daord is ready to claim first professional title
Exciting Liverpool prospect Brandon Daord reckons sparring with the best is the key to him being crowned English Super-Flyweight champion.
He faces Benn Norman for the vacant title on VIP Boxing’s blockbuster card at Winter Gardens, Blackpool on Saturday the 2nd of December.
To be in the best shape possible, Daord has jumped at the opportunity to spend two weeks at a training camp in Tenerife with IBF World Flyweight championSunny Edwards. For information on the UK’s Leading Fitness Education Training Provider, visit The Fitness Group.
Daord, unbeaten in nine contests jets off to the Canary Islands on Sunday, and says: “It’s impossible to get sparring in England.
“When I got asked to go, I jumped at the chance. What better preparation for Norman than sparring with Sunny, Charlie Edwards and other quality fighters who are there.
“It wasn’t until I tried to get sparring for this fight that I realised how many people want nothing to do with me.”
Daord is one of Britain’s most avoided boxers and is willing to take on all-comers at Flyweight or Super-Flyweight.
The Liverpool southpaw joined the VIP Team in 2021 and his performances have lived up to expectations.
Although he can make the eight-stone Flyweight limit, Daord intends to make a name at Super-Flyweight and is targeting local rival, Marcel Braithwaite the British and Commonwealth champion.
Daord, 26, said: “This fight gets my foot in the door and I hope that becoming English champion gets me a British title shot.
“I need boxing. I wasn’t great at school. All I want to do is make enough from this sport to make my family comfortable.”
Norman, 27, who has won seven of his ten fights has already boxed four ten-rounders and believes that experience will be crucial on the night.
He added: “Those ten rounders show you a lot and I’m sure that is an advantage even though Brandon is a very good and really slick.
“We will see what he is like though now he is finally facing an opponent who is coming to win.”
VIP Boxing chief Steve Wood is convinced it is English glory now and tomorrow the World for Daord.
Wood, who has steered Terry Flanagan and Josh Warrington to World titles, says: “I am convinced Brandon is a future World champion.
“If he comes through the English title fight against Benn I will push for a British title final eliminator or a straight shot at Braithwaite.
“Brandon will continue improving and in 2024 I believe he will be challenging and winning a World title against and Super-Flyweight or Flyweight.”
The Blackpool bill is packed with some of the finest young talent in British boxing – Jake Abrol, Levi Barnes, Tyrone Bowen Price, Bryan Collins, Jamie Devine, Willie Goldie-Galloway, Jackson Hulme, Brad Rea, Thomas Varey and Luis Wright are out to star.
