Brad Pauls aiming to become first Cornishman to win a professional boxing title in over 100 years
“Newquay Bomb” Brad Pauls (12-0), 26, aims to make boxing history by being the first Cornishman to win a professional boxing title in over 100 years when he takes on Guildford's Darren Codona (7-4-1) for the Southern Area middleweight title at York Hall this Saturday, June 8.
Hard-hitting Pauls is undefeated in 12 with seven stoppages and this explosive fighter will be looking to make a massive statement when he takes on ultra tough Codona, who believes he should already be a Southern Area champion after suffering a controversial narrow points loss to Tey Lynn-Jones in July 2018; a fight many impartial observers thought Codona had won.
Pauls, who recently signed a three-year extension, with Goodwin Boxing is trained by Terry Steward at Club KO in Buckhurst Hill and believes this is his time “I have trained with more intensity and more motivation than ever before. Codona is in for a heap of trouble.”
The prestigous Southern Area middleweight title can be traced all the way back in history to 1934 and has been held by notable names such as Howard Eastman, Darren Barker and Billy Joe Saunders.
The “A Step too far” show promoted by Olivia Goodwin has a stellar undercard.
Former WBA Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Champion Jake Ball (also trained by Steward) returns after his shock loss to Craig Richards when he takes on the tough Daryl Sharp.
Former Central Area Super-Bantamweight Champion Muheeb Fazeldin has his first start under the Goodwin banner taking on Jamie Quinn over six rounds.
Former Southern Area Super-Flyweight title challenger Jack Hughes returns to the ring with a 6 round contest whilst Super-Middleweight Adrian Redman (4-0) takes on Harry Matthews in what promises to be a very entertaining bout.
Kent’s Welterweight Neil Parry under the tutelage of Billy Rumble is improving with every bout and he takes on Fonz Alexander whilst at the same weight Yaser Al Ghena (3-0) takes another step towards title contention in a 4 round bout.
In what could be a classic one of Goodwin Boxing’s brightest prospects Denis Denikajev (3-0) takes on Ben Fields who last time out defeated Kane Gardner (9-0) and will be looking to take Denis’ 0.
Brandon Ball returns after his shock loss last time out and this Richard Sawyer fighter looks to get back on the winning trail at Super-Featherweight whilst all action Jack Newham (5-1) looks to continue his march towards his title destination.
Ish O’Connor (1-0) was very impressive on his debut and this Jamie Monk fighter takes on Jordan Grannum who can cause an upset.
Welterweights Billy Jackson and Alan Ratibb, and Super-Welterweight Ohio Kain Complete the card.
