Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall 2 to take place in first quarter of 2023
BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom has confirmed Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall have agreed a rematch in 2023, a year after their first controversial fight.
The rematch is locked in for March in Glasgow, Shalom confirmed on TalkSport, where he also alluded to advancements being made on the night in the way the fight is going to be judged.
Taylor retained his undisputed super-lightweight world titles against the WBO’s mandatory challenger at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena in February via a split decision.
The result, however, was hugely contentious and many ex-boxers, fans and pundits claimed the impressive Catterall had done enough over a gritty 12 rounds.
Taylor edged past Catterall in hugely controversial result, that was very badly received from fight fans who were outraged at the blatant corruption, which prompted an investigation led by the British Boxing Board of Control, resulting in Ian John-Lewis’ demotion from an A Star Class to an A Class Official.
Judge Howard Foster did score the bout 113-112 in Catterall’s favour, but the other two cards on the night backed the champion, 114-111 (Ian John-Lewis) and 113-112 (Victor Loughlin).
