The WBC mourns the passing of Hubert Minn
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán deeply mourn the death of Hubert Minn, an all-time WBC Great.
Hubert Minn was one of the most prominent ring officials since 1997 and was inducted into the Hawaii Hall of Fame for his outstanding qualities.
In his career he officiated multiple boxing matches in which more than 55 fights for world titles stand out. As chairman of the WBC Ring Officials Committee for twenty years, he patiently, inspirationally, astutely and brilliantly trained hundreds of referees and judges around the world, always outstanding for his honesty and commitment. Hubert who was a retired Administrator for the Department of Education Program in Hawaii received the Cliff Bailey Quality Award as Outstanding Teacher. His natural teaching ability spanned all of his activities. Patient, devoted, kind, admired, respected and greatly loved.
Once asked what makes a successful boxing judge, Hubert wryly replied: “Integrity, intelligence, commitment, courage…and having a thick skin helps” Wittingly or unwittingly, he was of course describing himself.
We will always remember our friend Hubert as a charismatic person devoted to boxing, but we will remember him even more for the great human being that he was.
All the WBC family pray with his family and friends. We have lost a Great, one of our very own. A steadfast constant friend, who could always be depended upon, constantly loyal, genuine, sparkling good humour and great company. Hubert will forever be remembered fondly and with the greatest of affection. He listed his greatest achievement as raising his two children Shanti and Vail.
As playwright and author Anton Chekhov wrote:
“We shall find peace,
We shall hear Angels,
We shall see the sky,
Sparkling with Diamonds.
Rest in peace Dearest Hubert.
