Mahlangu and Rashid rematch for ABU title
ABU super bantamweight champion, South African Bongani Mahlangu (23-8-0, 11KOs) will face Tanzanian Tony Rashid (13-2-2, 10KOs) on Friday, February 245 at Kilimanjaro Hall, Ubungo Plaza in Dar- Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The two fighters fought a hotly contested bout in March of last year, with Bongani coming out on top by TKO in the 12th and final round.
The official weigh-in took place in Ubongo Square. Tony weighed 121.2 lbs while Bongani was 121lbs.
28-year-old Rashid has vowed to win back his title he won in 2019 with a 10th-round TKO over South African southpaw Siboniso Gonya. He lost the belt in his first defence to Mahlangu two years later in September 2021. Known as 'AK47 Bad Belle', Rashid's last three victories have all ended by knockout.
Now 42-years-old, 'Wonder Boy' Bongani 10 of his last 12 fights have been championship contests, winning South Arican, WBO International, IBF International and ABU super bantamweight belts. He lost just twice in his last 10 fights.
