Promoter Bob Arum makes it clear who he wants next for Tyson Fury
The WBC champion could fight three times next year.
Tyson Fury’s co-promoter hopes the WBC champion will fight three times in 2022, with Dillian Whyte, the ‘logical’ opponent for the next event.
The governing body is not yet presenting Whyte as the current champion’s mandatory opponent as the challenger is in an arbitration dispute over his status. That has led to a delay in any fight, and there is also a disagreement between Fury’s camp and promoter Eddie Hearn over the proposed purse split.
With Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk yet to resolve their rematch, there is time for Whyte and Fury to reach an agreement, despite recent suggestions that Fury would retire after his defense against Deontay Wilder, the champ looks set to build on his momentum over next year.
“I think Dillian Whyte should be the next fight for Tyson Fury,” Arum told talkSPORT. "We’ve got to push ahead and get a date and an opponent for Fury.
"And it seems to me that it is logical that it should be Dillian Whyte.”
American Arum insists he wants to see the Brit fighting far more regularly this year and warned the remaining heavyweight contenders he would be ready for any of them.
“What I would like to see, and this is what he would like to see, getting in the ring at the end of February or March and doing at least three fights in 2022.
“Hopefully that is how it will all roll out, Fury is ready to fight anybody.
“I really believe that he is the pre-eminent heavyweight in the world, there is nobody out there that he would be reluctant to fight.”
