Jarrell Miller accused of grand theft
Heavyweight boxer Jarrell Miller has been arrested in Hollywood for allegedly stealing a truck from a dealership in Hollywood on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2024.
The incident took place at Haims Motors on North State Road 7 in Miami.
An employee told detectives that a female approached the desk with a story that she had left her phone inside a truck that had been repossessed by the dealership, which is when the staff member grabbed the keys to a black dodge Ram before Miller grabbed him in a chokehold and demanded he hands over the keys.
The victim than claimed that Miller took the keys before slamming him into the ground.
The car had a tracker inside, which led to authorities locating the truck in the area of Griffin Road, where Miller was arrested.
The 35-year-old appeared in bon court on Wednesday, January 4th, charged with carjacking and burglary with assault.
Miller's lawyers believe there isn't probable cause for two charges against him, "I think, at best, the state would have a grand theft and a misdemeanour battery instead of those two charges," a defence attorney stated.
However, the judge overseeing the hearing disagreed, "Taking into account the allegations in the probable cause affidavit, the level of force that was used, as well as the manner in which the offence took place, the court does find probable cause as to both counts."
Miller remains behind bars at the Broward County Jail.
