Best Games for Boxing Fans
It's always exciting to watch two amazing fighters go head to head, beating the crap out of each other. Add the hype that often builds in the run-up to the fight, especially if it's a grudge match, and you get a perfect mix of professionalism and aggression in the ring. Recreating some of your favourite boxing moments is part of being a boxing fan. And the great times we live in have brought up some truly decent boxing video games that allow fans to step in the ring and face other players from all over the world.
Fight Night Champion
Even though it's not exactly a new game, the last Fight Night series title – Fight Night Champion – released back in 2011 is one of the best in the series without a doubt. You can play it on Xbox 360, PlayStation3, and on iOS. Fight Night Champion turned boxing games around, providing players with an opportunity to customize their journeys through the game and ranks fully. In addition, creators of the game managed to properly balance the statistics between the fighters and offer a wide range of the same to achieve very similar fight odds used by the avid fans on their sports bets. As a result, you can go all the way from fighting in an old rusty boxing club to a sold-out Madison Square Garden show.
The game uses an in-depth story mode, where the player goes from nobody to the world's champion. It makes the gameplay seem like a Hollywood blockbuster rather than a boxing video game. It also features 50 then-famous boxers and allows you to recreate legendary fights, such as Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley and Vladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye. You can also choose between different modes, one of which is bare-knuckle fighting. The "full-spectrum punch control" was also an innovative thing at the time that allowed using the right control stick to perform a wide range of jabs. Many gamers consider Fight Night Champion the best boxing video game in history. It is still often replayed around the world, 10 years after its release. Nowadays there is even a separate slots game named Fight Night, which is extremely popular in Latvian casino sites.
EA Sports UFC 3
Even though EA Sports UFC 3 isn't exactly a boxing game, it is considered the best combat sports title available now, at least until Floyd Mayweather releases his boxing game (if it happens at all). More so since it doesn't feature full-screen ads like its successor, the UFC 4. It features outstanding graphics and an octagon that looks like you're actually fighting at a live UFC event. The game features a number of modes: you can compete in tournaments with your favourite fighter, battle in exhibition events, or create your own fighter and play career mode, among other things. The controls are super easy. You quickly learn various punches, kicks, holds, takedowns, submission, and combinations that you can also learn and upgrade in career mode. And when it comes to animations, the way EA made flying kicks, power punches, and knockouts look is simply astounding, with blood and sweat flying around the octagon when you pack a punch.
Real Boxing
If you like playing games on the go, you should check Real Boxing. It's simply the most notable boxing game up to date. It features amazing graphics, a comprehensive career mode, and a multiplayer mode that allows players to compete with each other. You can safely say that Real Boxing is carrying on traditions set by the Fight Night series. Real Boxing is available both on Android and iOS, and it features some of the legendary boxers, including fictional ones, such as Rocky Balboa that you can take through story mode and take on Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago, and Adonis Creed. Every boxing fan with a smartphone should give Real Boxing a try.
