Bermane Stiverne dismisses Francis Ngannou's 'punchers chance': "This is Tyson Fury’s backyard"
Former heavyweight world champion Bermane Stiverne previewed the upcoming heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou ahead of Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.
The 44-year-old Haitian gave his prediction for the fight to Casino Canada and broke down the MMA star's 'punchers chance' of winning.
How do you see Fury v Ngannou fight going?
BM: "There’s a guy in Francis Ngannou that has never had any boxing experience and has jumped into it with his first professional fight even though he is an MMA fighter against the king of the sport in Tyson Fury. My thoughts on it is that it’s really obvious, I don’t think Tyson Fury is going to have any problems taking care of Francis Ngannou. Just like if Tyson went into Francis Ngannou’s backyard, he wouldn’t have any problems with Tyson Fury. I do believe that Fury is going to take care of business.
"I believe Tyson Fury knocks him out. This is the heavyweight division though and everyone has a punchers chance, but the power is irrelevant at this point. It can go both ways, but you need to look at it with a different perspective. This is Tyson Fury’s backyard, he’s been there, done that and knows how to box. Francis Ngannou has just started boxing even though he is the king of MMA, it is not the same thing and it is not the same discipline or rules it is different. When it comes to Francis Ngannou’s power, it is irrelevant. I don’t think it matters; you can’t hit what you can’t see."
What’s your prediction for Fury-Usyk?
"That Fury-Usyk fight is an interesting one but I’m going with Tyson Fury because he is the bigger fighter. Tyson fights like a super middleweight, he is this big tall giant who can fight, move and is awkward. It’s like having Floyd Mayweather but with a seven foot fighter. It’s not easy to fight Tyson Fury because of his style, he knows how to box. He’s also huge physically so I have to go with Fury due to what he can do.
"Don’t get me wrong, Usyk as an amateur I remember that he was very good and athletic but Oleksandr Usyk is not a real heavyweight though. I think because of Usyk’s ability, I don’t think he will get hit or hurt much so I think Fury wins by decision."
