Conor Benn dealt major setback as BBBofC rejects application for Chris Eubank Jr. fight
Conor Benn’s plans on fighting Chris Eubank Jr. in the UK on February 3rd next year have been derailed by the BBBofC by rejecting the 27-year-old’s application for the contest to take place in the UK.
The BBBofC still requires the appeal to be concluded with UKAD on Benn’s ongoing investigation due to his failed drug tests from last year.
Although Benn’s promoter, Hearn, remains confident that the Eubank Jr-Benn fight will still be able to go ahead on February 3rd in the UK.
Hearn could stage the match outside of the UK with strong links to Saudi Arabia already in place, however a UK fight would have attracted large ticket sales.
However, Eubank's promoter, Kalle Sauerland, also remains optimistic the UK will be the location for the grudge match, "If the deal gets done, the fight will get done. How we get the fight done? There's lits of legal options. They're not illegal options, they're legal options. It would be a licenced fight in the United Kingdom."
Reactions on X
"For once the BBBofC getting it right standing up too Eddie and Benn, Connor had his chance too just come clean take the ban and learn but instead stubborn and petulant."
"Spoilt rich kid not getting he’s own way after cheating."
"At least the bbbofc has SOME integrity left."
"They are exactly right and to be fair its more entertainment than sport. Eubank has twice turned down a potential route to Canelo through Janibek and Benn is not even domestic level at any weight."
"At least someone in boxing is still straight and true to the sport not bent and corrupt like everyone else like the wbc etc and promoters like frank warren and Eddie Hearn!! Well done BBBofC. Keep that little druggy out of the sport."
"Should threaten to sue like a certain world champion. Bans get ignored pretty quickly after that."
"Of course it has, you can't tell them you're innocent, it needs proving."
