Lucien Reid will have the chance to set the record straight in a British title rematch
‘Lethal’ (8-0-2, 4 KOs) was controversially denied the strap by a majority draw at London’s York Hall last month but will have a second shot at holder Brad Foster (11-0-2, 4 KOs) after BBBofC confirmed retention of his mandatory challenger status.
Reid said: “I wasn’t in any doubt I’d be mandatory because it was a great fight and I’ve not seen anyone say he won – the only people who didn’t have it as a draw had me winning by two or three rounds.
“I’ve heard through various sources he doesn’t want this rematch but I want it. I want to right the wrong because I know I won the fight. It was my chance to secure a better life for me and my son and the judges took it away from me.
“My levels can go way above what I showed that night. He can’t go any higher. There is so much more to come from me now I know I can do 12 rounds. It’ll be totally different.
“We’ll be ticking over until it gets announced. My fitness is there and we’ll be ticking over waiting for it. All we have to work on is technique because I can’t get any fitter.
“I’m undefeated but that means nothing to me. I want to be a champion and go up in the world. I want better opportunities and belts get you those opportunities.
“If this rematch happens, I won’t leave it to the judges. I will be training as hard as I can and get as sharp as I’ve ever been. This time round, it’ll take me to new heights and I want to go to European and world level.”
Stay tuned for confirmation of Reid’s title tilt.
