Jorge Zarate TKOs Oscar Nery at Neza Fight Night
Mexican Jorge Zarate (5-3-2, 5KOs) was the star of “Neza Fight Night”, the first show of the year presented by Chiquita González Boxing and PHILLIPS – ASSA ABLOY, the best pound-for-pound lock brand, after defeating Oscar Nery Plata (13-5-2, 7KOs) by TKO in two rounds.
25-year-old Zárate’s victory came about in the second round of an eight round super flyweight contest, which took place at the Dome of the Metropolitan Stadium in Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, and that was broadcast by TVC Deportes.
From the beginning, heavy-handed Zárate looked stronger than Oscar Nery who tried to make an impression, but without success. In the closing moments of the first round, Jorge landed a jarring straight right putting Oscar in bad shape, but he was saved by the bell.
In the second round, Jorge Zárate’s piled on the pressure, so Referee César Castañón wisely decided to stop the fight for the fighter’s technical knockout victory that improved his record to 5-3-2, all his wins by KO, while Oscar left the ring with a 13-5-2, 7 knockouts record.
In the co-main event of the night, four rounds in bantamweight, Isaac “Chato” Cárdenas (3-0) defeated Mario Mejía (1-2, 1 KO) by unanimous decision, with scores of 38-36 on the three Judges´ cards.
Both fighters were penalized one point, Mario in the first round and “Chato” Cárdenas in the third, but the strongest blows were from Isaac, who felt tired in the last two rounds, but did enough to get victory.
Isaac Bustos Jr (1-0, 1 KO), had a brilliant debut by defeating Daniel Romero (0-1) by technical knockout in the third round, at 1:31 minutes in a fight at super middleweight.
Accompanied in the corner by his father, former world champion Isaac “Tortas” Bustos, the young rookie dominated the entire fight, landed the best combinations and his rival held on too long, until the Referee intervened to stop the fight.
In an intense duel from the beginning and with a spectacular closing due to the exchange of blows, María Fernanda “Chispa” Cortes (3-0-1) and Karla Ríos (1-1-1) tied after four rounds.
In four rounds at featherweight, Juan “Taz” Escobedo (3-1, 1 KO) defeated Christian López (1-2) by majority decision, with scores of 39-37, 38-38 and 40-36.
Chiquita González Boxing and PHILLIPS – ASSA ABLOY, the best brand of padlocks and locks in Mexico, remain committed to supporting the young promising prospects of boxing and presented the first of five functions for which they expanded their alliance for this 2022.
