WBC World super-flyweight championship – Asley Gonzalez vs Lulu Juarez II
WBC World super-flyweight female champion Asley 'Chiquita' Gonzalez Macias (15-2, 7KO) will rematch with Lourdes 'La Pequena' Lulú Juárez (34-3, 4KO) this month.
Their first fight ended with Asley Gonzalez dethroning Lourdes Juárez via mixed decision in her home city of Tepic in the Nayarit state of Mexico. Defending champion Juárez had held the title since December 2020 until she conceded it on her fourth defence on October 1st, 2022.
29-year-old Gonzalez Macias is currently enjoying an impressive five-fight winning run. That third defeat of 36-year-old Lulú from Mexico City's career also ended a six-year, 33-fight unbeaten streak.
As part of the Commemoration of International Women’s Day, the rivals joined the WBC during their Coffee Tuesday to comment on their previous punch-up and their forthcoming fight.
This is what the fighters had to say:
Asley Gonzalez
"I feel very proud to be the first world champion of Nayarit. I was crowned in a great fight and I’m ready for a rematch.
"If the first fight was good, the second will be better. I thank “Lulú” Juárez for giving me the opportunity to fight her, however, I am sure that I will keep my title. We are ready for a great fight."
Lulu Juarez
"I took the first fight not as a loss. I took this experience as learning, it even allowed me to complete projects that I had postponed.
"I am ready for the rematch, now as a challenger I feel more relaxed. We invite everyone to watch our fight."
