Undercard Highlights
There's another championship clash between highly-rated Kazakh Tursynbay Kulakhmet (4-0, 3KOs) and hard-hitting Dominican Juan Carlos Abreu (23-6-1, 21KOs), who was an IBF Youth champion.
The 27-year-old southpaw from Kyzylorda, who was a bronze medallist at the 2019 World Championships, defends his WBC International super-lightweight title to a dangerous puncher who has knocked out over 90% of his victims and faced Jaron Ennis and Egidijus Kavaliauskas in his career.
Quotes
MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton: "It's a great privilege to have Archie Sharp headlining the event in what will be a tough test against Alexis Boureima Kabore. Archie has world title ambitions, and this fight gives him the chance to show everybody that he belongs at that level.
"We have some of the very best undefeated rising stars in action too, including Tursynbay Kulakhmet and Pierce O'Leary, plus two undefeated fighters putting it all on the line early in their careers as Jordan Reynolds faces Randal Barlow.
"Sam Gilley, William Hamilton, Joe Giles, Sugar Shy and Lerone Harrison are on the bill too, with the remaining opponents for those fights set to be announced shortly, so this looks certain to be yet another can't miss MTK Fight Night event."
Background
South Londoner Sharp is unbeaten in 20 contests. Defending the WBO European belt he won from an unbeaten Leon Woodstock in 2018 on three occasions propelled him up the World Boxing Organisation's rankings, and winning their Global title in his last fight has earned him the lofty No.2 spot.
His 21st opponent, Kabore, from Burkino Faso, has experienced 258 rounds, gone the distance with former world champion Rey Vargas, and previously held the WBC International super-bantamweight title.
If Sharp can get through this contest with his arm raised, then he will be able to force a fight with either Shakur Stevenson or Jamel Herring, who clash on October 23 in Atlanta for 'Semper Fi's' WBO World super-featherweight title.
Predictions
Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: "Archie Sharp comes from the same place as me in Welling, so I'm always going to be backing him to win. During lockdown he had a bit of trouble against an enthused Jeff Ofori, who put in a career-best performance just to be denied by a single point on the scorecard. That was clearly a difficult period for all boxers, so I believe he is back to his best now and he proved that with his recent victory over Diego Andrade Chavez in July. As WBO #2, he is just one fight away from a world title shot at the winner of Jamel Herring vs Shakur Stevenson, which takes place the weekend before. I believe there is more at stake for him than ever, so he will be at his very best on fight night, especially in familiar surroundings in his home city of London.
Kabore doesn't possess power, but he has previously gone the distance with former world champion Rey Vargas, so I expect this title fight to go the full 10-rounds, with Sharp winning unanimously."
