Archie Sharp scored a devastating KO but didn't have it all his own way against Declan Geraghty
Archie 'Sharpshooter' Sharp retained the WBO European super-featherweight title with a fantastic fourth-round knockout over valiant Declan Geraghty at the Royal Albert Hall.
The crowd watching Frank Warren’s bill was enthralled by the contest between the two MTK Global stable-mates with Geraghty showing all his skills early on in the fight before a devastating finish.
The Dublin challenger boxed superbly early on but found himself on the receiving end of a chilling left hook from champion Sharp that suddenly ended a thoroughly entertaining contest.
Sharp said afterwards: “He caused me a lot of problems early on and fair play to him. I wish nothing but the best for him moving forward – no matter what he decides to do.”
Earlier on in the evening, hotly-tipped bantamweight Dennis McCann enhanced the hype surrounding his fledgling career as he blasted to 4-0, 3 KOs.
The 18-year-old sensation was in imperious form as he felled Georgi Georgiev on multiple occasions before the referee mercifully stepped in towards the end of the second round.
McCann said afterwards: “There’s still so much more to come. I have more shots to show but I’m just over the moon at the moment.
“I’m enjoying everything so much and I know with my management team MTK Global and my promoter Frank Warren, they’ll get me where I want to be which is at the top.”
