Anthony Tomlinson vs James Moorcroft headlines huge night in Sheffield
In exciting news for UK fight fans, Dennis Hobson – under the Fight Academy banner – has announced the first in a number of scheduled shows that will take place over the coming weeks.
Kicking off this run of shows will be a title-packed card held on Friday May 21 at the Sheffield Arena Car Park; a limited number of fans will be allowed to attend the event, and TV coverage will be revealed shortly.
The event will be headlined by unbeaten heavy-punching local man, Anthony ‘The Truth’ Tomlinson, who will be aiming to make it 13 wins in a row in a soon-to-be-confirmed welterweight title fight against Wigan’s James Moorcroft, 13-1 (5).
Chief support is a genuine 50-50 English Lightweight Title fight between the champion from Derby, Myron Mills – who has lost just once in 14 outings – and Portsmouth challenger, Lucas Ballingall, who also has just a single blemish on his 13 fight ledger. The undercard will also feature a highly anticipated clash between Sheffield’s Kane Salvin and Manchester’s Michael Gomez Jr in an eliminator for the English Super Featherweight belt.
With the broadcast coverage of UK boxing in a state of flux, Hobson and his partner Steve Crump are working with a new broadcast partner – details to be announced imminently.
“This is a start of a new era for British boxing, and in the next few weeks all will be revealed about how exciting our plans are,” explained Hobson, who staged the UK’s first ever drive-in boxing show last December.
“This show is just the first of many that we’ll be doing. Because of the current situation, we’re still having to be creative about how we put the shows on but we’re working with other promoters to make it all work. All the fights are going to be competitive and whether people tune in, or watch live at the event, fans will always be getting value for money. We’re upping the ante and, with the news we’re about to break, you’ll see that we’re going to re-establish ourselves on the boxing scene.”
