Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam – an international crowd-puller
Cardiff is expected to receive a massive tourism boost as fans flock to see the two boxing heavyweights – World Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua and France’s Carlos Takam – battle it out at Principality Stadium on 28th October.
Data released by official ticketing partner StubHub revealed that 92% of tickets sold on their platform were to fans outside Cardiff[1]. Projecting this to the venue’s full capacity, the fight is expected to attract over 70,000 visitors from the rest of the UK and internationally, with fans travelling from countries including the US, Australia, Spain and Sweden.
This will bring a real boost to the local economy with fans spending money on hotels, dinner, transport and entertainment – demonstrating the power of live sporting events to drive tourism and benefit local businesses.
Demand has been high for the fight with tickets nearly selling out when they went on sale on the 12th September.
“Major boxing matches such as this are increasingly drawing in a wider audience from across the UK and around the world. It is great to see that this boost is benefiting a range of cities – not just London and Las Vegas. StubHub is proud to be the official ticket partner for the event, helping support Cardiff’s local economy.” said Wayne Grierson, StubHub’s UK Country Manager.
Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of Matchroom Sport said: “I am delighted that Cardiff is hosting this fight between two of boxing’s biggest titans. Boxing is becoming increasingly popular, which is good news for host cities as fans spend money and enjoy themselves before and after the fight. I would like to thank our official partner StubHub for facilitating the sale of tickets for this all-star match.”
Tickets for the fight are still available on StubHub , with seats still available at face value from £40. Official travel and hospitality packages via SportsWorld are also available on StubHub.
