AJ is ticking over with Ben Davison
Anthony Joshua has been training with Tyson Fury's former coach, Ben Davison, despite still being under the tutorship of his usual trainer, Derrick James.
The former heavyweight champion has been ticking over with Davison, the man responsible for Tyson Fury's dramatic weight-loss and surprise comeback to the heavyweight division.
Speaking exclusively to Best Gambling Sites, former world champion Froch gave his view on the new partnership and also addressed rumours of a matchup between Anthony Joshua and Zhilei Zhang, now that the Deontay Wilder fight talks have seemingly fallen apart.
Froch said, “Ben Davison is a good trainer, I like his tactics and the way he breaks down fights tactically from round one, so if Ben and AJ are working together, it will be an interesting addition to AJ's mindset, and maybe tactics as well. But I I don't know the extent of how much he’s working with him? But I can't see any disadvantages to AJ having a little bit of work with Ben Davison. I think Ben Davison's a great, great coach. He's had some good success as a coach and is dedicated, he puts the time into his students, so I've got nothing against that. But I don't understand what AJ’s thought process is, because why is he not just sticking with Derek James and sticking with him and listening to him and working with him. I think he's a bit disrespectful actually to Derrick James, but I don't know how Derek James feels about that.”
'The Cobra' praised Joshua-Zhang as a great fight but predicted there'll only be one winner, “I think it's a great fight and I can see how either of them could win that. AJ is younger and fresher and he seems fit for 12 rounds and Zhang tires after five or six, and he’s getting old at 41 years old, but at the minute, with AJ’s previous performances, especially his last couple against Franklin and Helenius. Based on those performances, I did not see anything there that beats Zhang. But, like Tony Bellew said, if he's put under pressure and is forced to fight, maybe the old AJ will come back. I'm not going to sit here and say AJ loses to Zhang, but I'm making Zhang the favourite based on AJ’s last two performances.”
