David Price said Anthony Joshua needed to be “ushered out the ring”
Anthony Joshua has revealed he was dropped by David Price in sparring.
When Joshua was training for his fight against Eric Molina in 2016, he went for a sparring session with the heavy hitting heavyweight David Price, and it didn’t go as planned.
Liverpool boxing hero Price told iD Boxing: “I just caught him with a big right hand and down he went. He had to get helped up and ushered out the ring.
34-year-old Joshua readily admitted to the news when he told Sky Sports: “Yes, he (Price) dropped me in sparring, and I continued training and that’s why I am here now.
“In a sense, you have to look at these things as a blessing in disguise because, in boxing, a lot of people get dropped, get hurt and then go on and do great things.
“I had come out of a police cell the day I went up to training. I won’t use it as an excuse.”
AJ went on to become a two-time unified heavyweight world champion, who is currently ranked WBC #1, WBA #2, IBF #2, WBO #1, IBO #1. Price won English, British, Commonwealth and WBA Continental belts as a pro, but wasn’t quite able to reach world title level.
The Watford warrior is presently preparing for his March 8th 10-round showdown with Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. A win will see him become mandatory contender to the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, who clash for the undisputed crown on February 17.
