Former WBA super-flyweight champion Andrew Moloney aims to rule world again
Andrew Moloney (21-2, 14KOs) focused on becoming two time champion of the world, as he gets ready for a ring return on December 9 against Filipino fighter Froilan Saludar (32-4-1, 22KOs) in New South Wales, Australia.
'The Monster' Moloney, who stood out as an amateur prior to an excellent professional career, the former World Champion looks to bounce back from his American trilogy with Joshua Franco in formidable fashion.
The Australian opened up about his emotions prior to his ring return.
Moloney said, “I’m motivated, that’s the best way to describe myself right now. I’m as driven as I’ve ever been to become champion of the world for the second time.
“December 9 ain't no picnic, and I didn’t want one to be honest. I wanted a real fight, and that’s what I got. An opponent with a good record fought for World Championships, who’s coming to fight, that’s what I wanted and I've lived in the gym since being let out of quarantine. I have to show people I’m still improving.
“I want to thank my manger Tony Tolj, Top Rank, No Limit Promotions and Dragon Fire Boxing for getting me on this event. It's a big Australian event with two Shows back to back and that I'm headlining the first night. I’m excited to be a part of it, and I’m planning on stealing the show.”
Moloney still sits high in multiple sanctioning bodies world ratings, and outlined his plans to regain a world title.
The former WBA 115lb king faces Froilan Saludar in his next fight but aims to challenge another, he said, “Kazuto Ioka is the fight I want. He’s a legend, a four weight great. That’s the stuff dreams are made of. We’re looking to position ourselves so that fight can happen in the future.
“I have to produce a top class performance in Newcastle, NSW, to be in with a chance of landing the Ioka fight. I deeply respect him as a fighter, and my call out is a respectful one. However, I'm willing to travel to Japan to face him but first things first December 9 is the stop on the road to the World Title and I'm gonna remind people who Andrew Moloney is.”
