How to watch the Amir Khan vs Samuel Vargas fight – all the details you need
King Khan is back in action against the Canadian-Colombian challenger, live on Sky Sports.
The former unified super-lightweight ruler is setting his sights on welterweight world honours this year following his blistering return to the ring last April in Liverpool, destroying Phil Lo Greco in just 39 seconds after nearly two years out of action.
Khan is looking to get back to world title contention and BBN provide you with all the details you need to watch the next chapter of his career:
Date
The bout takes place on Saturday September 8
Venue
Arena Birmingham (previously known as The Barclaycard Arena and the National Indoor Arena – NIA)
Rounds scheduled
12 three-minute rounds at the welterweight limit
Titles
Despite Khan being ranked no.6 with the WBA, no.8 with the WBO, and no.9 with the WBC, there is no title on the line in this fight. However, there has been talk that it could become a final eliminator for the WBA world title, now held by the legendary Manny Pacquiao (60-7-2) after knocking out Lucas Matthysse on July 15.
Ringwalks
Khan and Vargas are expected to make their ring walks at approximately 10pm, but delays are always possible in boxing events
TV Coverage
Sky Sports have the exclusive rights to the fight in the UK and coverage begins on Sky Sports Action at 6pm, with Sky Sports Main Event joining the coverage from 7:30pm
Undercard highlights
Chief support is provided by British middleweight champion Jason Welborn (23-6) and challenger Tommy Langford (20-2).
The local rivals clashed earlier this year in a fight of the year contender at the Walsall Town Hall, with Welborn narrowly nicking the British belt from defending champion Langford by a single point in a scintillating 12-round war which was aptly billed as 'Battle of the Baggies', owing to the warring pair's allegiance to West Brom FC.
Langford is a former British, Commonwealth and WBO Inter-Continental middleweight champion and rival Welborn is a two-weight Midlands Area champion, WBC International Silver middleweight titlist, and now the British middleweight champ, which he managed to win on his third attempt having previously failed at welterweight against Frankie Gavin and at super-welterweight against Liam Smith.
The Birmingham residents will clash for a second time in 'Battle of the Baggies 2' with the winner set to defend against Oldham's Mark Heffron (20-0) next.
‘Ruthless’ Ryan Kelly (11-1) defends his Midlands Area super-welterweight title that he initially won in 2017 with a narrow points win over unbeaten Adam Harper (7-0) and then reclaimed again last May via seventh-round stoppage at Villa Park against Owen Jobburn (4-2-1). The 24-year-old Birmingham champion defends against unbeaten Dordon man Kelcie Ball (9-0).
Super-bantamweight star Gamal Yafai (15-1) appears on the bill in his third fight this year.
