Amir Khan confirms shocking robbery at gunpoint
Former world champion Amir Khan and his wife, Faryal, were held up at gunpoint in the early hours of Sunday, April 19 in East London, he confirmed on social media.
Khan posted this statement on Twitter at 2am today: "Just had my watch taken off me at gun point in East London, Leyton. I crossed the road with Faryal, luckily she was few steps behind me. 2 men ran to me, he asked me for my watch whilst having a gun pointed at my face. The main thing is we're both safe."
Fortunately, both Amir and Faryal were unharmed by clearly shaken by the ordeal.
Now 35, 'King Khan' won silver at the 2004 Olympics at the age of 17, then became a world champion at just 22 when he overcame Andreas Kotelnik in July 2009.
Khan was beaten by long-time rival Kell Brook via a sixth-round stoppage in Manchester back in February, after which he strongly hinted at retirement.Not offically retired yet, Khan was ringside at the weekend in Manchester to see welterweight star Conor Benn, who has been linked with a fight against Brook, beat Chris van Heerden in two rounds to retain his WBA Continental welterweight title. Florian Marku was in action in Newcastle on April 2 and demanded "Give me Amir Khan!" after his fourth-round stoppage of Chris Jenkins to retain the IBF International welterweight title in Newcastle.
Promoter Ben Shalom believes Khan will fight on, but the Bolton boxer has hinted at retirement stating that he has lost his love for the sport.
