Stripes and Stars – Tigre takes title
Quite a night at the Bayou Event Center in Houston, Texas, as Texan Alfonso “Tigre” Lopez (33-4, 26KOs) was crowned the first ever Bridgerweight champion of the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) by defeating Hungarian Jozsef “Gladiator” Darmos (14-4-3, 10KOs) in a tremendous fight.
Managed by Jimmy Rubio, Huntsville's Lopez stopped Darmos at 1:53 in round six of a scheduled 10.
It was an incredible bounce back win after suffering a TKO defeat to unbeaten Gilberto Ramirez in December last year at light-heavyweight. He was defending the title he won in November 2019 in his first fight for 13 months but was stopped in round by the former WBO super-middleweight champion, Ramirez who now has a record of 42-0.
The WBC recently created the Bridger division, which ranges from the upper limit of the 200lb / 90kg Cruiserweight division to 224lb / 101kg.
The reigning world champion is Oscar Rivas.
