Charlie Edwards on whether a fight between Alen Babić and Dave Allen will be made
Speaking to BetFredTV former WBC World flyweight champion Charlie Edwards urged for the fight between two heavyweight favourites Alen Babic and Dave Allen to be made.
“I think it will get made, I think it’s the perfect fight for Babić,” the 28-year-old said. “Eddie Hearn is trying to market him very well and he’s TV gold. Everybody loves him and he’s got a great personality.
“Dave Allen has been through the mill and fought some great fighters along the way but he’s had a tough career as well, so it’s good to give Dave the opportunity to have a big fight again. It’s almost like his last hurrah because if you want to be back in these big fights then you’re going to have to put in a big performance and beat Babić.”
To many people's surprise, Dave Allen (19-5-2, 16KOs) made a comeback to boxing in the summer this year on a much lower platform than usual on Fightzone TV. The 'White Rhino' sealed a second-round stoppage victory over Italian Andrea Pesce (7-14-3, 2KO) in Sheffield last August, returning from an 18-month absence from the ring.
“It’s like a passing of the torch,” Edwards continued. “Dave is coming to the end of his career in boxing, as we all know as he’s just come out of retirement, and Babić is the new up-and-coming sensation. I think we will see them in the ring in the not too distant future.
“Experience is key sometimes and Dave has got the experience in the pro ring. Babić likes to fight, get in the fight and come straight out and let his shots go. Dave is tough as we all know and he has the experience. He’s a bigger guy. A complete heavyweight. Babić is in between, he could be a bridgerweight or a heavyweight but he wants to compete in the heavyweight division. It would be a really interesting fight. Could Dave be too big? Yeah he could. Could he be too tough? Yeah he could.”
