All the results from the Akeem Ennis Brown vs Bilal Rehman card
IBF European super-lightweight champion Akeem Ennis Brown (13-0) kept his title and unbeaten record as he outpointed Bilal Rehman (12-1) at the Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff on March 1, live on iFL TV.
23-year-old 'Riiddy' won the vacant IBF ranking title against Darragh Foley (15-2-1) in his last fight in December last year and his win over Rehman was his first successful defence, scored at 99-91 by all three ringside judges. Gloucester's first ever English champion will now be breaking into the top 15 in the International Boxing Federation's rankings.
Commonwealth flyweight champ Jay Harris (15-0) also continued his unbeaten run with a hard-fought points win over the game Brett Fidoe (13-49-5), who only accepted the fight 24 hours prior to turning up. The 28-year-old rom Swansea admitted that it wasn't his best performance, subjected to many withdrawals and last-minute changes, but is looking ahead to his mandatory positions for the British and European titles.
Alex Hughes (13-0) sizzled in a one-round demolition of Wilmer Gonzalez (19-13-1). The heavy-handed 25-year-old light-heavyweight dropped his South American opponent twice with brutal body shots and the scheduled eight-round contest was all over in just 2minutes and 4seconds. The Welshman has now racked up four consecutive first-round KOs.
Welsh Area super-lightweight champion Kieran Gething (8-2-1) narrowly outpointed a very tricky opponent in Damian Esquisabel (3-3), scored at 58-57 by referee Reece Carter.
Jacob Lovell (2-0) doubled his win tally with a third-round stoppage win over Mohamed Mahmoud (0-10), which provided the 19-year-old super-lightweight a massive learning curve. The youngster was read the riot act afterwards by trainer Gary Lockett to start living the life of a pro athlete, a lesson that will stand him in good stead in the future.
Jacob Robinson (5-0) was involved in a very close fight against a good fighter in Jonny Phillips (5-2). The 24-year-old 'Baby Jake' just scraped through with the win by a single point against a dangerous opponent in just his fifth pro contest. Manager Lee Eaton said that they will look to add more rounds and bid for titles later in the year.
There were also wins for Nurtas Azhbenov (4-0); Rhys Edwards (4-0); Angelo Dragone (4-0); Maredudd Thomas (6-0).
David White Jr (2-1-1) was the only one from the home corner that didn't manage to add another win to the record, forced to settle for a draw with tough Nicaraguan Jose Aguilar (16-55-5) instead.
