Adelaida Ruiz crowned WBC champion
Adelaida Ruiz (12-0-1, 6KO) conquered the interim World Boxing Council super flyweight title after a ten-round unanimous decision victory over Mexico's Sonia Osorio (15-8-2, 4KO), at the Ciudad Deportiva Heiner Ugalde in San José, Costa Rica.
'La Cobra' Ruiz was in complete control of the action, keeping Osorio at a distance. A smart tactic considering the first fight last March 20 only lasted two rounds and ended in a technical draw. Osorio suffered a cut over her left eye from a clash of heads, so she was unable to continue.
LA's Ruiz, 33, used her jab effectively, complimented with her right hand, showing her technical superiority.
“I feel very happy. This is a great victory for me and for my team. I am living and realizing a dream that I always had,” Ruíz commented.
Judges Julio César Alvarado (100-90), Nicolás Valenzuela (98-92) and Sixto Rincón (99-91) scored in favor of Ruiz in this entertaining match.
